Scientific research is rife with jargon and formatted in ways that often make it seem difficult and boring- even the fun topic of sex cannot save research from the stuffy rip of the academic protocol. Luckily, reading and using research are skills that can be learned, making research more approachable and interesting rather than a drag. This two-part webinar will cover tips for reading dense scientific papers and how to hone your ability to find the papers you should be reading. Presenter Joli Hamilton is a Ph.D. candidate in depth psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute who has been in love with research since middle school. This webinar will cover common definitions for frequently misunderstood research terms, differences between quantitative and qualitative research, and how to steer clear of bogus science.
Joli has a practical approach to reading research and will share her tools for becoming an excellent consumer of scientific literature, including a step-by-step guide for reading articles and a resource list containing multiple avenues for accessing studies and articles even if you aren’t currently granted university access to the databases. This webinar will help you maximize your research time and make you a more effective educator or therapist.

Objectives:

1. By the end of this workshop, students will gain a working knowledge of research vocabulary.
