Statistics show that an estimated 80% of the world's population live with some form of the herpes simplex virus (HSV). So why is it still so stigmatized? This course will take a closer look at herpes with the intention of dismantling the surrounding stigma through education and my own experience living with HSV.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss STIgma and at least two ways it can negatively impact someone.
- Replace at least one herpes myth with a herpes fact.
- Give an example of how one can help to destigmatize herpes in their day-to-day lives.

Rae Kennedy (she/her) Registered Nurse and Certified Sex Educator.
"When I contracted genital herpes in 2016, I learned first-hand about the negative impacts STIgma can lead to. After I learned the reassuring truths about living with herpes, I was determined to educate others.
In 2019 I obtained my sex education certificate from ISEE, and by 2021 I had over 10K Instagram followers who were subscribing to my online herpes content. Using my personal experience and gained knowledge, I help others slay the herpes stigma that once had its hold on me."
