Course Description: Sexuality is a core aspect of the human experience, many assume that sexual development does not begin until puberty. Not so! Sexuality is embedded into the experiences of infants, children, and adolescents.
This workshop will provide an overview of child and adolescent sexual development that encompasses age-related sexual changes that occur from birth through adolescence. Special attention will be dedicated to exploring the multifaceted influences on child and adolescent sexuality as well as what constitutes typical vs atypical manifestations.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss the intrapersonal developmental processes that influence sexual development from infancy through adolescence.
- Describe how the Circles of Sexuality Model apples to child and adolescent sexual development
- Discuss the environmental and interpersonal influences on child and adolescent sexual development.
- Describe typical and atypical aspects of child and adolescent sexual development.
