Abstract
Is history boring? No way! Learn about the Nazi burning of the first Sexology Institute in Germany, the sexual revolution in Russia in the 1920s, Reich and his orgone boxes, Professor Kinsey and his struggles, queer history, the intersections of civil rights and sexual rights, and more. This course is helpful to those seeking an AASECT certification, as it is a required educational topic for sex educators, counselors, and therapists.

* A Brief History of Sexology is a required topic for AASECT certification. 

Learning Objectives

• recognize at least 1 significant contribution of at least 3 sexologists or historical figures.
• identify and discuss the need for researching and recognizing BIPOC people who contributed to the field.
• Identify how systems of white supremacy and other systemic oppressions contribute to the hetero-centric and Euro-centric representations of our written history.
• For international students: examine and analyze the impacts of the dominant culture on the writing and representations of history.
• Identify and discuss at least one way that the work of our predecessors has impacted their own work.
• Discuss gaps in their own knowledge
• Recognize at least 3 parallels of (Western) societal attitudes or behaviors from past to present.
• For international students: Identify parallels between past and present in the dominant culture and recognize how it may impact their current work.
• Identify at least 2 factors that effected the birth control movement in America.
• identify parallels between historic arguments against homosexuality and arguments against homosexuality today.
• identify and discuss parallels between arguments against birth control today and historically.
• Discuss forced sterilization/contraception in historic context and recognize its impact on health outcomes for BIPOC people today
