Non-monogamous people make up a significant minority population in the United States. Polyamory, swinging, and other types of consensual non-monogamy are fairly common, but the counseling and medical professions have not caught up yet and continue to treat anything but monogamous relationships as intimacy problems or health risks. What are the myths and facts about conscious non-monogamous relationships? How can health professionals and clinicians work with these clients as opposed to against them? This course will explore various types of consensual arrangements and discuss practical issues, evaluation methods, and counseling styles. Resources and strategies for working with non-monogamous individuals and partners will be demonstrated.

• Identify common polyamorous relationship structures
• Recognize good practices for examining issues with polyamorous clients
• Identify common mistakes made by therapists working with polyamorous people
