This two-hour training will introduce therapists and sexual health educators and practitioners to the religious practices that are common among observant and Orthodox Jewish clients. Knowledge of Jewish laws and customs will help practitioners provide culturally-sensitive services to this population. Participants will be given an overview of the views and laws that are relevant to sexuality. They will also learn the common concerns that exist in the observant and Orthodox Jewish population. Using case studies to guide the discussion, participants will be given the tools and techniques for working with the challenges and well as the strengths within this population.

By the end of this course participant will be able to:

  • Name at least 2 common concerns that exist in the observant and Orthodox Jewish population.
  • Recognize at least 2 Jewish laws that are relevant to sexuality.
  • Identify at least one tool to work with strengths within this population.

Core knowledge area: socio-culture factors
Sex therapy training area: theory and methods of sex-related psychotherapy
Sex ed training area: theory and approached to sexuality education with specific populations

This program meets the requirements for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for up to 2 CE credit.
