So many parents know that they need to talk to a child about menstruation, but you may not understand why it's also important to know the phases of the cycle, mechanics of menstruation, and pros and cons of various new types of birth control. Learn why a gynecological exam is really important, and get tips for how to use the onset of menses as a way to give your child skills for dealing with their healthcare system as well as their own bodies.
Who is this class for? Parents of menstruating teens (teens who have started or will be starting their menstrual cycles).
What is this class about? Equipping parents with information, tools & guidance to best support their menstruating teens through times of physical, emotional & social changes & transitions.
Course Learning Objectives
- The four phases of the menstrual cycle & hormonal regulation
- How to talk with your teen about birth control & supporting teens in their first gynecological appts
- Mitigating shame around the topic of STIs & testing / starting conversations with partners about testing
- How we can empower teens to be their own best advocates when it comes to their body, sex & relationships - building their own unique embodiment toolkits
Instructor: Kelsey Hughen

Kelsey Hughen (she/her/hers) is an Embodiment Teacher, Holistic Sex Educator and Singer + Songwriter. She is a certified Holistic Sex Educator through ISEE (The Institute for Sexuality Education & Enlightenment) and holds a certification in Trauma-Informed Yoga through Practice Yoga in Austin, TX. Kelsey recognizes her privileges as a white, cisgender woman and will always be working to honor and advocate on behalf of the perspectives and experiences of others in all she does.
