Are you ready to be a great sexuality educator?
This course is a deep dive into the theory, skills and practices of sexuality education. Day one delves into models and ideas in sex education, sexual rights as human rights, and what that means for the practitioner as well as the student. Days 2 & 3 you will prctice the components of sex education, examine and plan for how sex education can or should look different for various audiences, and how a holistic view can be used to create a sex education program, exercise, class, or activity. You will create a sample curriculum or workshop as part of the class to cement your understanding of how to move theory to practice. Whether you work with children or adults, the disabled, within the LGBT world, or with a specific ethnic population, you will find useful material, practical skills for your work, and ideas you will be thinking about for a long time.
You will learn:
- sex education theory.
- Intersectional ideas and implementation of representation
- Concepts and models in comprehensive sex education.
- How to practice needs assessments, community agreements, small group and large group discussions
- How to create experiential exercises, including those involving any type of touch
- how to create safety in the classroom atmosphere.
- ways to deal with difficult challenges while training or teaching.
- identify the stages of group development
- practice how to work with specific groups or identities
- how to Identify your own personal training style.
- identify skills for self-care while training.
- Evidence-based educational practices shown by research to be effective in creating change.
