The Robot in the Room: Skills for Recognizing and Treating Problematic AI Engagement in Your Clients
CE: 3 (Streaming- Live)

3 AASECT*/ ISEE CEs

12:00-1:30 PM Eastern time

Class Description:

Are you informed about (and ready for) how your clients are using their chatbots as counselors as well as companions? The rise of human/chatbot relationships has raised a number of clinical concerns about how AI is responding to mental health issues, but most clinicians are not yet asking clients about them. These issues include chatbot-induced or aided increases in suicidal ideation and suicide completion, delusional thinking ("AI-related psychosis"), medication interference and non-compliance, harm to others, and more.

This 2-part webinar will

1) enlighten you about peer-reviewed, current studies showing the disturbing trends in chatbot use and abuse,

2) cover the mounting evidence of AI-induced and/or AI-encouraged mental illness including “AI-psychosis",

3) cover who is most vulnerable and

4) offer you skills, checklists and handouts for intake, assessment, monitoring and therapeutic rapport.

Learning Objectives

You will be able to

  • Discuss common chatbots and platforms

  • Identify at least 2 mental health concerns for human-chatbot interaction from peer-reviewed literature

  • Recognize and use questions for intake

  • Utilize several methods for client rapport, monitoring and ongoing assessment of AI-related mental health concerns

NOTE: This is a 2-part webinar, meeting for 2 weeks on Monday for 90 minutes each time.
