Everyone has something to say about pregnancy, even if they've never been pregnant! And sex during pregnancy?! Now, everyone's got a few words to say. Yet, sex during pregnancy is often overlooked in health care settings and in sexual health education spaces because of lack of education, discomfort, cultural nuances, and more. In this presentation, I will go over pregnancy myths, pregnancy facts, and tips for ensuring that people can have the best and safest sex during their pregnancy and postpartum.

By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Describe approaches that promote effective interdisciplinary prenatal sexual and reproductive health care.
  • Identify psychosexual concerns that may necessitate an interdisciplinary approach, including consultations, collaboration, and referrals when working with pregnant individuals.
  • Evaluate approaches for referring patients for outside treatment when working with pregnant individuals.
  • Identify inclusion-focused language for working with the natal cycle.
  • Recognize the concept of the 4th Trimester and its impact on sexual behavior and feelings.
  • Discern the challenges and opportunities of breastfeeding and its impact on sex.
