Class description:

What challenges have autistic and neurodivergent people dealt with when it comes to their sexual selves, and how have clinicians been trained to work with these? How have methods used in the past been obstructive, difficult, or even dehumanizing, and what are some ways we can change this? 

Sexual Behavior Analysis (SBA) is an evidence-based and humanistic approach in which empirically-sound best practices from Sex Therapy, Sexuality Education, and Couple's Work are combined and presented within the simple, effective, and practical framework of Behavior Analysis (BA). The instructor is trained in each of these fields and licensed as an LBA. Nicholas Maio-Aether developed a method called Sexual Behavior Analysis to help clinicians who work with neurodivergent and autistic people with issues specifically relating to human sexuality.

Nicholas will take you through the ideas involved and help you to reimagine the approaches that you can take to make a more humane and effective difference with your clients.

Instructor

Nicholas Maio-Aether, MAMFT, MSPSY, BCBA, IBA, CSC is a Behavior Analyst, Practicum Supervisor, AASECT Certified Sexuality Counselor and Sex Therapist at Empowered: A Center for Sexuality LLC. Nicholas began providing Sexuality Education at age 16 and recognized a need for competency in addressing sexual behavior when he began his venture into Applied Behavior Analysis. Nicholas opened Empowered in January of 2016 with a goal of providing a variety of sexuality-based services to all populations. Since, Nicholas has been an international presenter for AASECT and at ABAI, where he sat on the Risky Business: Ethics in Sexual Behavior panel. He has also led the AASECT Bylaws Committe as its Chair.

You must attend both sessions for credit. You must attend the full day of the course and cannot mix and match the AM and PM sessions with another day/time. If we cannot verify your attendance for more than 20 minutes, you will be marked absent and not be given credit for any portion of the course.
