Class description: Sexuality and Spirituality have been artificially separated from each other for centuries in Western culture. However, intuition, and even neuroscience suggests that the feeling of the Sacred naturally co-exists with sexuality for many people.
In the past 100 years or so, body-positive philosophies have captivated and titillated the popular imagination of the US and Europe, but the basic tenets of these spiritual practices are often lost through systems of oppression.
In this course, you will examine: what does sacred mean to me? How do I express or understand what is sacred, what is sex, what is spirituality? We will also look at mystical traditions in major religions such as Christianity, Judaism, Indic religions, Buddhism and Islam to see that the sexual has always been within the sacred, even if these traditions are sometimes in the dark.
Participants will be offered an opportunity to deepen their own personal relationship to the Sacred, and its relationship to Sexuality. This exploration is in service to offering our clients greater depth of presence when they ask us about these topics.
Learning Objectives: You will be able to
- Create definitions of spirituality and sacredness
-
Consider spirituality as a component of erotic arousal,
-
